Acoustic insulating glass reduces uncomfortable noise from heavy traffic and regular city noise.  It is the distance between the unit's individual glass panes and the panes' individual thickness that helps define the unit's acoustic insulating properties.  Increasing the thickness of the pane will reduce the vibration caused by sound waves. 

Hvidbjerg Vinduet offers a super low energy unit with a 6mm pane at the outside (normally 4mm). The different thickness of the panes increased sound reduction as the panes are unable to vibrate in time.
